Recommendation: Sweet Home Fortissimo - ¥

Lunch sets for JPY 800 with salad and miso soup and the portion's pretty decent!

This may not necessarily reflect Japanese cuisine but it definitely is a perfect example of Japanese home-cooking - aji fry (fried mackeral), shogayaki (stir-fried pork with ginger) and more.

Location: Near the post office, 9602 Toyosato, Nozawaonsen, Shimotakai District, Nagano 389-2502, Japan

Recommendation: Ohtaki Restaurant - ¥

Check out their Dosoujin don (rice bowl)! It's the only place in Nozawa Onsen that offers this and it's pretty great! Plus they're located at the bottom of the slopes at Nagasaka. Great to drop by before hitting the slopes again!

Location: Bottom of Nagasaka ski area, 7821-1 Toyosato, Nozawaonsen, Shimotakai District, Nagano 389-2502, Japan

Opening day and times: 1200 - 1400
