A Perfect Day in Nozawa Onsen – From Sunrise to Après-Ski

Whether you're visiting Nozawa Onsen for the first time or returning to your favorite Japanese ski village, this guide walks you through a day filled with adventure, culture, and unforgettable experiences.

Early Morning: Catch the First Lift

Nothing beats the feeling of being the first on the slopes. Head to the Hikage Gondola Station around 7:30 AM and ride to the top before the crowds arrive. For real-time lift and weather updates, check out Nozawa Onsen Snow Report.

Pro tip: Pack a thermos with hot coffee and sip it at the summit before your first run.

Midday: A Taste of Tradition at Daimon Soba

After a few runs, refuel with a warm bowl of handmade soba noodles at Daimon Soba, just a short walk from the Yu Road escalator.

Afternoon: Onsen and Old Town Walk

Take a break from skiing and soak in one of the town’s 13 free public onsens. Our favourite? Oyu Onsen, right in the heart of the village.

Remember to rinse thoroughly before entering and keep your towel out of the water!

Then wander the narrow backstreets filled with old ryokans, souvenir shops, and even a few hidden bakeries. Grab a coffee at Haus St Anton Coffee & Snacks to warm up.

Evening: Après-Ski and Izakaya Vibes

As the sun sets, Nozawa Onsen transforms. Grab a drink at Himatsuri Bar, known for its local sake selection and friendly vibe.

Then settle in for dinner at Kaze no Ie, a cosy spot serving creative Japanese tapas-style dishes.
